Before we drill a single hole or set a single post, there’s a design process. That’s what this service is about. We sit down with you, figure out exactly what your property needs, and design a shade structure that fits — your house, your yard, your HOA, and your budget.
Too many companies skip this step. They show up with a tape measure, throw out a number, and start building. Then you end up with a cover that doesn’t match your house color, blocks a window you didn’t want blocked, or gets rejected by your HOA two weeks later. We do it right the first time.

Why Design Matters in Las Vegas
Las Vegas has over 300 HOA communities. Most of them require architectural approval before you can build anything in your yard. That means color samples, site plans, elevation drawings — the whole package. We handle all of that.
Design also matters because the sun angle here is different throughout the year. A cover that shades perfectly in July might leave gaps in October when the sun is lower. We account for that. We look at your home’s orientation, where the sun hits hardest, and where you actually spend time outside.
Wind is the other factor. Clark County has specific engineering requirements for shade structures because of the gusts we get — especially in spring. Your design has to meet those load specs or it won’t pass inspection.
Our Design Process
On-site consultation. We come to your property and take measurements. We look at the mounting surface (stucco, block wall, fascia board), the soil conditions, slope, drainage — all the stuff that affects how we build. This visit is free.
Color matching. Alumawood comes in a range of colors and wood-grain textures. We bring samples so you can hold them up against your house, your trim, your fence. Most people go with a color that matches or complements their existing exterior. We’ll give you honest feedback on what looks good.
Custom sizing. Every structure we design is custom-sized to your space. No cookie-cutter kits. If your patio is 14’3″ x 22’8″, that’s what we build. We can work around obstacles — AC units, gas lines, existing landscaping, pool equipment.
HOA submittal. If your community requires architectural approval, we prepare the complete submittal package: site plan, color selections, dimensions, product specifications. We’ve worked with dozens of HOAs across the valley and know what they want to see.
Permit drawings. Clark County requires engineered drawings for shade structures. We handle the permit application and all associated paperwork. You don’t have to deal with the building department — that’s on us.
Materials We Use
Alumawood is our go-to material and it’s what we recommend for 95% of Las Vegas projects. It’s extruded aluminum with a baked-on finish that looks like real wood. Won’t rot, won’t warp, won’t attract termites, and it handles the UV exposure out here without fading the way painted wood does.
Color options include several wood tones (from light birch to dark walnut) plus solid colors. The finish is textured to look like real wood grain — people can’t tell the difference from 5 feet away.
For lattice designs, we can adjust the spacing between slats to control how much light filters through. Tighter spacing = more shade. Wider spacing = more open feel. It’s one of those details that makes a big difference in how the finished product looks and performs.
